Syria gained independence in April 1946, is an Arab country in Southwest Asia, bordering Lebanon and the Mediterranean Sea to the west, Israel to the southwest, Jordan to the south, Iraq to the east, and Turkey to the north. Its capital city, Damascus. The population is mainly Muslim, but with a significant Christian minority.

St.Simon (Samaan) church in Aleppo is considered to be one of the oldest remaining churches in the world.
